Actually. . . he died from the additional injuries inflicted during the 
attempt to remove the bullet from the skull.

But if you wish to get semantic here. . .

In Deadlands terms, even he started with only a light wound to the head, at 
1 wind per 5 seconds he never would have survived 9 hours - the resultant 
6,480 points of wind loss would have caused him, at best and assuming a d12 
vigor and spirit, 270 wounds to the guts.
Or by using legend chips to negating all wind loss, you can delay each 
wound taken by 3.91666 minutes.

Or you can just say that he got shot in the head, and died from a head wound.
