Bear in mind that on The Transformed Man Shatner didn't really "sing", per
se.  He instead performed the songs dramatically (albeit with the help of
background singers) to much comedic effect.  Trust me, I have the CD.
Granted, that comedic effect was brought about by what I call car wreck
value, but it was funny nonetheless.
