 I do it the second way, it's a lot easier.  If there's a few different
 types of baddies, like say a Bad Honcho and a bunch of mooks, I'd do one
 roll for the main bad guy and another for all the henchmen (using some
 kind of arbitrary average if they've got differing Quickness stats).

 But it is about personal preference, not about rules.
