So because your group is a little slow picking up the
system and because a chain of bad luck took out an
NPC, those of us who enjoy this game shouldn't be able
to give our opinions on other games?
I don't think your posse is stupid, I don't think you
are a bad GM, but I do think you have gotten a bit
beyond yourself with those statements. Since when does
enjoying a game, where the rules are rougher and the
body count higher, EVER invalidate someone’s opinion
about another game? That kind of attitude means that
the tic-tac-toe people ought to be the only ones
talking here.
My gaming group and I have been on the same mission as
you, to seek out new games and new play experiences,
to boldly go where no gamer has gone before. I've run
more games then I care to count, made them and seen
them succeed or fail. Most of the people on this board
have done the exact same damn thing, neither you nor I
are "cosmopolitan" because we are looking for new
games... we're average, run of the mill. So cut the
attitude, you don't have the moral high ground.
The D20 system and D&D both have a lot of the flaws
people accuse them of. So what's wrong with saying
that? Is keeping an open mind supposed to be
synonymous with passivity? Does it go hand in hand
with insulting the predominant play style in a group
you disagree with? If so let me be VERY open minded
for a moment and inform you that the cleft of Shane's
buttocks is a positive rose garden when compared with
the malodorous stench lingering in the crack of WOTC.
My players went through everything yours did; they did
the math, they dug the graves and they still think
that Deadlands is one of the best systems out there.
Despite that we are still and always will be in search
of better, so we haven’t “settled”. We’ll judge each
system on its merits and flaws (or edges and
hindrances) and none of us feel the need to gag
ourselves when they don’t measure up.
Get off your high horse and bring a little information
to this discussion instead of trying to be the
"political correctness" guru for kinder gentler
gaming. What is it you like about systems with a lower
mortality? What was actually confusing about Traits
and Aptitudes? I may not like D20 but I would rather
be informed about it’s good points then told I can’t
hold an opinion about it’s bad ones.
Just the opinion of an average gamer... same as you.
