You need to get some better encyclopedias!:-) All three are very
real historical figures.

Gen. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain saved the Union Army at
Gettysburg, and though I despise him for that:-), I respect the fact he
later took a .58 musket ball through the groin and lived--SERIOUS Man
Points, there.;-) In Real Life (TM), he went back to being a college
professor, but in DL opted to start Union Blue instead.

Gen. Stand Watie was the only American Indian to attain a
General's rank on either side during The War, and was the last Confederate
leader to surrender his command. His exploits are justifiably the stuff of
legend, and IMHO he's one of the great military leaders of all time.

I can say the same for Gen. Patrick Cleburne, whom I was happy to
give his due in DL (command of an Army). In Real Life, he was denied
promotion because he advocating the manumission of slaves, and wound up
dying in a suicidal charge at the Battle of Franklin in 1864, an assault
conceived by his far less able superior, John Bell Hood.

If you need more details about any of these noteworthy men, just
post a follow-up to the list. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions,
or recommend some good books.

I hope this helps, and thanks for the questions!
