 The way I run this is that if you're in hand-to-hand and you want to
 shoot somebody, you roll shootin' as normal, but your opponent gets to
 add his fightin' level to your target number to hit.  He does NOT get to
 add his weapon's Defensive Bonus, though, because keeping you at bay
 isn't going to help him.  You add +2 to your Hit Location roll as well.

 Rifles and full-length shotguns give you a -2 to hit (because they're
 utterly unweildy to use in close combat as a shootin' iron) and a shotgun
 does not get the +2 for firing shot - although it does do full 6d6 damage
 if it hits.  Scatterguns and other mid-length weapons only incur a -1 to
 hit, and pistols nothing.

 Works well for us.
