If you *really* want to "F" him, have the demon subtract time for when it couldn't see (because his hands were in his pockets or something).
Better yet, after a year and a day, if the character doesn't request his soul back, have the deal automatically renew for another term (sort of like a CD [certificate of deposit])
OR, come up with the old "Time has little meaning in the Demon World. A day is similar to an eternity in *your* world"
