RE: [DL] keeping players alive

The point is not to try to kill them. Its not my job to kill them. The point is not to cheat to keep them alive. If they could not die, what struggle do they face? More to the point, if you are cheating to keep them alive, who's players are bored?

Its not mine. My campaign drew a crowd of 14 players with more in the wings. I stopped it because I did not have the time or energy to keep up. The campaign was that damn good, and you could ask any player in it and they would tell you the same thing.

They respect and enjoy that I do not pull punches. Makes them think twice about doing something stupid and getting themselves killed. (note: GETTING THEMSELVES KILLED)

These rules that I posted were posted by a PEG employee a long time ago. Might have been Goff, or Ashe? But you would have had to been playing that long have wanted to be here and know that. They are a joke. You know ha ha funny.

Didn't really think so.

We are suppose to keep them alive!?

I thought the two rules of Deadlands were:

1) KILL ALL THE PLAYERS
2) NEVER LET THEM SEE IT COMING.

I run the game and let them worry about staying alive. If I did it any other
way, would there be any real feeling of risk or terror?

Do your players have any other feeling than boredom and frustration as you turn their characters into "Star Trek Redshirt 1-6?"  If not and they're having fun, continue as you will.  If so, expect some turnover until you have no more players.

The point of terror/horror isn't the certainty of death.  It's the considerable probability of death combined with the hope of survival and triumph.  I put a lot of effort into building the personalities of my characters.  If I realize that all that work will be wasted before the night is over, I'm not going to put that much effort into playing the character.  I'm also not going to play in that GM's group very long either.
