Yeah, it's a form of opium. If you have seen the extended version of
Tombstone it shows you how rough the stuff can get. There's a scene where
Wyatt opens a drawer in his bedroom and finds several empty bottles of the
stuff. Mattie says that she needs it, to which Wyatt responds, "At least you
admit it." She then screams about being an opium fiend.
