Re: [DL] Fudging

Admittedly not a Deadlands topic, per se, but I felt obligated to step in
with regards to this part. Dungeons and Dragons (which I myself have a
campaign running in at the moment) is not, IMO, designed to kill the player
characters any more than it is a "hack/kill the monsters, get the loot" game
- unless you make it that way. Like any other game system, it's only as
good as what the group puts into it. When you get right down to it, ANY
game can be oriented to kill player characters (Deadlands is one of several
which flat out tells you that rural property can be purchased at very low
rates).

Actually, our campaign has been running for over six months now, and thus
far the experience for resolving encounters and adventures has been heavily
based on role-play. One character died so far as a result of bad dice rolls
(LOTS of bad dice rolls), but he's been the only one so far and the party is
only up around the 5-6 level mark for the majority.

Ironically, the two most likely reasons any more characters will die in my
campaign present are a) as a result of another PC trying to kill them, or b)
as a result of stupid behavior (often at the expense of the party as a
whole).

One of the reasons (there are many) why I stopped playing D&D is because the
game is designed to KILL player characters. It can get away with it to some
extent, because higher level characters have ludicrous amounts of hit points
and any character has a chance of Resurrection. But I find the whole thing
frustrating.

I game to have fun ... having random die roles blow away the entire group
this would not be fun.
