[HoE] My take on Templars - revised - Response?
Ok, I misread the example on my last post. But after looking over the
Templar book here is my current take.
In the book it says that the code is not enforced as such by Simon, and
that each Templar has his own interpretation. But the Oath of blood has each
Templar to be judged by other Templars in the field.
In my opinion, this makes the Templars, though with good intentions, and
lofty goals, doomed to fail. The narrative has Jo, who has obviously been
wronged by many people, saying that in her opinion very few are worth
saving. So, by her interpretation, most PC Templars would be guilty of
breaking the code. She then judges them guilty, and, instead of bringing
them in, becomes their executioner, as she feels the transgression is too
great. This too is ok by Simon, as the oath of blood says. So, Jo, who hates
everyone so it seems, has decided that for the most part, the only people
worth saving are Templars and companions.
This is much like I remember first grade, with the teacher leaving, and
naming a student room monitor in her absence. The monitor will ignore what
his friends do, but might, untruthfully, mark down people he didn't like as
trouble makers. It is leaving the asylum to the inmates.
As for Templar PC's, yes it seems that they are best suited for Solo, or
Companion based campaigns. I can see playing one as an occasional character,
one who shows up when a player is ready to try something new, or a pc dies
during an adventure, and the Templar being a stand-by replacement. Perhaps
along the lines of having judged the Posse as worthy of saving, or as seeing
them destined for a good deed in their future.
But that is just my opinion, and it really didn't answer anything as far as
the question at hand...
