[HoE] No sir, I don't like it at all [Shane, Goff]
Hmm.
I have to say I am in two minds about the proposed 'black book' hunting
grounds book, allowing character to travel between the three DL 'worlds'
(WW,HOE,LC).
The deadlands game is an extremely rich and varied world, with an
interesting 'present' and a very interesting future (hoe/lc). To an extent,
small amounts of hoping (such as whats-her-name coming back from HOE to WW)
are OK, and I don't have a problem with that.
However,
I don't like the concept of using the hunting grounds as a "Hey, let's leave
Dodge City and go to Wasted West's Denver today" kind of portal. This is
basically what Feng Shui is based on, where the netherworlds are used to
travel between four main time periods, and there are a few other RPG's that
build on this type of concept as well, such as Spelljammer in AD&D (even
Amber is a kind of variation on that theme I guess). I don't think that DL
really lends itself to this kind of genre shift. I like to play WW as a WW
game, and HOE as a HOE game (and in playtesting so far, LC is a great game -
we're having too much fun on Banshee to want to wander back to HOE or WW.).
I don't really see that we need to be able to world/time hop.
I *do* like the idea of a hunting grounds sourcebook, but wont be using the
'different game' travel aspect of it at all.
Just my 2c worth.
