Re: [HoE] The Timeline. (What did we do for 100 years?)

Well, the tech advancements happened at pretty much
the same rate as they are making now. Sure in the
world of DeaLands we had Cyborgs and whatnot at this
time but the Mad Scientist inventions didn't really
push technology forward because it was so volatile.
Most of the standard reliable real science happened
when it happened in our timeline keeping this
advancements from being mind-bogglingly futuristic.
It looks like things do now because trying to make up
a future fashion such as car models and clothing and
such is really hard to do without it looking goofy,
heck modern fashions look goofy. So that's why alot of
it looks the way it does.
As far as other tech staying where it is, such as cars
and related things, can be justified by businesses
trying to make money. You keep making cars that
require the smae amounts of gas and retain the same
break-down rates of your vehicles people will have to
replace broken things more often thus more money.
Getting back to fashion and taste, maybe during/right
before the Last War the was a big retro-style? Turn of
the century fashions and attitudes and such became
popular.
And on top of all off that getting bakc to that first
point. Yes we have VTOL car right now, and like
someone said their not very reliable. Thus in
DeadLands terms they'd have a reliablity check because
at this time they'd be Mad Scientist inventions. It's
not till farther on in time that the technology
becomes stable real science.
And lastly, by having it further on in time they can
have history pan out however they want. They couldn't
do that now because they seem to like keeping close to
actual history, what with major occurences happening
when they do. And it also keeps it a game of fantasy,
where the players won't hinder themselves with trying
to "keep the feel" of modern day stuff and will say
"Hey it's the future, let's go nuts!"

At first I agreed modern day might have been a little
cooler, but the future grew on me and now I'm really
glad they did what they did.
