Re: [HoE] [HOPLER] AP ?

I have a quick explanation for the AP Grenade question that comes in a
simple 1 hit Q&A:

1) Which kind of AP were these designed for?

If it's a "grenade" that's SERIOUS AP, then it's a HEAT round, "High
Explosive Anti-Tank," which means that it penetrates the armor first, then
blows a shaped charge INTO the hole, creating a super-heated jet of flame
into the tank. Man does THAT suck for the crew compartment. These babies
can kill just about ANY modern tank on the battlefield. I have a friend
who's a tanker at a Texas Army base, and the horror stories he's heard about
these tank-killers rounds are truly disgusting.

If it detonates, either in the air or on impact, into thousands of tiny
fragments and shrapnel, then it's not technically an AP weapon, AP as armor
piercing. It's AP as in Anti-Personel, or "Beehive" grenades. The military
hasn't designed a grenade that spits out AP shrapnel, shrapnel does it's
dirty work by being EVERYWHERE in the blast radius, traveling at
ridiculously high speeds, usually too fast to actually penetrate anything
serious as it can't maintain it's integrity, it just flattens.

And if it just explodes on contact, then its a HEAP grenade, High Explosive
Anti-Personel. Just a big ol' *BANG!* when it hits something solid and LOTS
of concussion damage, which should ignore armor altogether, as it is
entirely a shock-wave kind of damage. The actual battle reports note the
effect as leaving the body intact, but almost liquifying everything on the
inside; bones, organs, you name it.

How they got it is irrelevant. They exist now, they'll exist in the
theoretical 2096, and they'll be FAR less protected than they are
now.....ie: No military, no MP's, free grenades if you can find 'em. Once
they're found, they'll be hoarded like cans of Spam and MRE's, but that's a
different issue.

At least, that's what I think, I could be wrong.....

Nah.
