Well, something from the Unity
adventure....
spoiler space
Okay, so the posse I'm in have just finished Unity,
& the Marhsal tells us the little sidebar about wanting to hear how the
"Murder, murder, murder" part went. I think we had an interesting
one.........
First, a briefing of our posse: We had going
into the Unity-- one Anti-Templar (me) who is dumb as a post, but killer with a
sword, one Earth Psycher who is also good with a sword, so much so the A-T (me)
thinks he might be a Templar in disquise (very important), one Doomsayer, one
Cyborg that we picked up in the Comsat station (player wanted a new character
for Lost Colony) who was damaged in the gunfight on the station (again, very
important), and three NPCs--a Banshee psycher, Jenny Quaid(?) from the game,
& a former PC enlightened MA who hasn't showed up in a while.
Prior to the murder scene, we picked up a cyborg at
the comsat station. We pretty much wiped out the cyborgs there, except for
severely damaging one in the head & chest. Upon second round of
fighting, it starts shouting over the com, "Don't shoot! I surrender!"
& we find out that he had been impressed into the Combine forces & had
just recently been set free because of our shots to the head. (apparently the
Marshal decided he have been enslaved, & we destroyed the controlling
mechanism) Later, the A-T & the Earth Psycher are cleaning up the
hallways with impressive sword actions, annoying much of the party, &
gaining mutual respect for each other.
Before entering the engine room, MA is injured
during a botched Ten Foot Punch that knocks him unconscious. Other NPCs
hang back to bring him back to awareness while the rest of us enter the engine
room to activate program "Apostolos." Needless to say, we eventually
figured out that the Marshal did this intentially so we wouldn't off an
NPC....
Apostolos gets activated, & well, you know the
drill--room goes black, doors disappear, we hear "murder, murder, murder...."
& get the clue that someone must die in order to activate the
ship.
Heh-heh.
This is when we find out that the damaged cyborg
used to be programmed to hunt down & destroy occult abominations. Something
pops in his damaged brain & he immediately points his gun at-- The
Doomsayer! But! He is also programmed not to shoot civilians!
Everyone is wearing civilian space suits (not sure if this is true, but Marshal
claims civilian suits are color coded orange & cyborg can't shoot orange
wearing folks.)
The Anti-Templar pulls out his sword & gets
ready to rumble with the cyborg--heck, we just met this guy!
Psycher pulls his sword in prep of
combat.
Doomsayer is standing there going,
"Huh?"
Players do a lot of "What do we do now?" We're in a
Mexican standoff, no one knows what to do, & lots of arguing goes on
for a while. Eventually, (since we are technically in combat) Marshal has
us draw cards. No one still will do anything, so me, the Anti-Templar,
decides this is nuts, someone has to die, one gun is already pointed at the
Doomsayer, & I'm not too attached to anyone anyway, I initiate combat with a
huge swing at the Doomsayer. This pretty much destroys the
impasse.
Cyborg's heroic programming kick into action &
he tries to defend Doomsayer by shooting me, (sleeved card). but fails to
interrupt. Psycher has sword ready also tries to intervene (sleeved card),
& successfully interrupts, & parries the blow & pulls out a pistol
to shove in my face.
Cyborg now sees I'm in peril, & shoots to
disarm Psycher & succeeds (gun). Tries to stop combat with an overawe,
& fails. Anti-Templar screams, "You ARE A Templar in
disquise!!!" and proceeds to attack Psycher (hey, the A-T has a Smarts of
1D6 & a Know of 4D4) Psycher parries again.
Cyborg shoots Apostolos box; no effect.
Psycher does Boneripper, I spend a Legend Chip to successfully defeat his
attempt.
Doomsayer finally snaps out of it & erects a
shield of some sort to protect herself.
Psycher tries Boneripper again, & I spend my
last Legend chip to successfully defeat it again.
Cyborg shoots at A-T again, & misses, but
A-T is now out of cards.
Psycher decides psychic attacks don't work to well,
quickdraws his SMG & unloads into A-T's chest; first burst is negated
through the spending of all of my chips. Next round, Psycher shoots
another burst, A-T cannot dodge, has no chips, & alas, dies.
Room opens up, the NPCs ask if we got the engine up
& running, & what happened to the A-T?
Now, granted, I did have a notion that one of us
had to die, & frankly, I figured it would be me because I'm one of the newer
folks, but I figured I had to get the ball rolling somehow or else we'd be still
standing there trying to figure out what to do.
At least I gave a reason to try to kill
someone!!
