Well easy...
If you resign a game it is like loosing by X against 0.
Where X is bigger than the worst game you could play.

The only way not to loose if you resign one game,
is for you opponent to resign the other game. ;-)

So if you fail to play one game, you loose that game and the pair of game
too.
