I still have about 10 spots open for the new SCRAMBLE tournament I wish to start. It will be a 32 player single elimination event,
culminating in a best 2-out-of-3 games final match between the
last 2 players, and one game for third place between semifinal
round losers. If you would like to enter the scramble tournament
please send your PBM userid to me at DavidNYJfan@hotmail.com

I have been having some discussions with a few pbm members
recently about whether or not to allow the use of large
(19 by 19) and grand (21 by 21) boards in this tournament,
or to conduct all games on the standard 15 by 15 board.
I think the way I am going to handle it is to initially send out
all pairings with the small board. However, after you have
received your board from your opponent, if you would like to
play your game on a larger board, I suggest you message your
opponent thru the server. Send an email to pbmserv@gamerz.net
with "message userid1 password userid2"  where "userid1"
is your pbm userid, "password" is your pbm password,
and "userid2" is your opponent's pbm userid. Send your
comments in the body of the email. If by communicating with
each other two players agree to play on a larger board,
then resign the first board before playing a word on it. The board
will be removed without penalty. Then send in the challenge
command for the larger board yourself. Regardless of whether
you play on a small board or large board, I'll want both players
to inform me of the board number of their game after it is
generated.

What I think I would like to do for now is to have every player
who has already signed up for the tournament to please
email me and let me know if you have any preference or
willingness to play your games on a large board, or if you only
prefer to play on a 15 by 15 board. What I may do is alter
some of the first round pairings to intentionally match players
who like large boards against each other, if it can be done
without altering the intended first round pairings too much,
by simply sliding some players up or down one seed to
accomodate this preference. Therefore it would be helpful if
I know before we start who is willing to play on a large board.
Remember, if both players do not concur, then the games will
be played on a small board.
