Donna is talking about judging its merits according to the standard for the
breed.  Many of you may consider this "standard" business "poppycock", but it
is a description of what a pyr should be.  To breed without it would cause the
breed to drift away from what it was historically.  It is almost impossible to
keep it historically correct even with the standard.  So no, she was not
kidding.  Don't confuse your love for your wonderful dog as the same as a dog
who conforms closely to the standard.  They may be miles apart, but still be
the best pet and guardian in the world.
