The person she got this dog from, why were they giving it up?  You 
mentioned something about teperment testing the dog. It seems if they 
had sense enought to do that, they would have had its shots, wormed, and 
groomed.   Did it come from a farm?  or another home?
I know this seems nit-picky...and I suppose it is...but I am curious.
