Re: [PyrNet-L] hip dysplasia

Whether it's a newf or a pyr, I do have a newfie girl who was placed
at a young age because the hip status was uncertain on pre-lim
x-rays. I immediately put her on glyco-flex when I got her and I
strongly recommend putting on glyco-flex or cosequin or similar
now and keep them on it. X-rays at 2 yrs showed one very good
hip and one not so good hip and clearance on every other
x-ray, so no other orthopedic problems. She does anything she
wants and has no problems with the not so good hip. Keeping on
the glyco-flex the 3-1/2 yr x-ray showed no change in the hips at all
and that includes any advancement in the not so good hip. I x-ray
periodically to keep track on any degeneration. What you're trying
to do is slow up any degeneration as long as possible and not
waiting until problems develop before doing something and in my
girl's case the glyco-flex is doing it's job and she's active as she
can be.
