I agree with you about the shearing.  
But, we have several cuckle-burrs around us.  One of our Pyrs was in sad
shape, after running around just one day.  Burrs were matted in.  So, my
husband got the scissors out and trimmed her coat.  My other Pyr at the
time wasn't as bad.  You could get her burrs out.  
But, I don't plain to trim them this year.  Pray that the burrs will not be
too bad.
