The vet diagnosed it as a cyst rather than a hematoma after extracting the
fluid or blood from the area.  It was similar to a hematoma in that the
cyst contained blood.  When I went to pick Dixie up, he said it may also
be a tumor.  I wasn't happy about that.  If it is a tumor then the concern
will be whether it is benign or malignant.  Anyway, this will be confirmed
positive or negative after we get the results back from the vet school
after they examine some of the tissue. 

The area has been stitched up and wrapped tightly.  The vet gave me some
Rimadyl to admininster for pain.  She has another appointment Monday to
change the wrap.

As expected, Dixie is doing fine with only a slight hobble on the affected
leg.  At the vet's office, she pranced around as if nothing ever happened. 
Ah, the life of a dog!
