Good idea Tracy to build up the confidence. The Chairman of th Bord and
myself went for a "paddle" last Oct at a beach on the West Coast of the
South island. He was only 5 months old. I had on a friend's gumboots because
I couldn't find mine, along came a rogue wave and took the wee guy off his
feet and filled the gummies up with water!! Had an awful job trying to get
poor wee Frankie to his feet being waterlogged as I was. The crutch of my
trackpants was down round my knees. End result, he's not a keen swimmer or
water baby and when he saw the size of Lake Taupo in January he went into
reverse. Owner of gumboots thought the whole thing very funny til she
realised I had "borrowed" her gumboots!!
