Re: [PyrNet-L] What happened

What a heart-warming story....and so sorry to hear about Amazing Grace. I
absolutely *know* that dogs grieve. When Shelley was dying, the final
weekend when we knew there was nothing more to do, Paddington got very
quiet, and wouldn't meet her eyes. Then some time on Sunday, Shelley
dragged herself over to where he was lying, and they spent about 10
minutes nuzzling each other, licking each other's nose etc....saying
goodbye. It was the last interaction between them. When we came back
without her on Monday, Paddy didn't look for her again, avoided walking on
the two areas where she had most liked to lie, and would not drink out of
the water bowl they'd shared. This went on for about a week. And when we
brought Ivy Rose home, even though we'd introduced them a couple of times
and walked them home together, when he realized she was staying, he would
have nothing to do with her and curled a lip if she got too close. Now
they're good buddies, but it's not the same relationship he had with
Shelley, and *nobody* can tell me he didn't grieve her loss.
