A pinch collar is a very effective and safe training device if used
correctly. It is like a choke, but has prongs on the inside that have a
pinching effect when the dog pulls or is corrected. This pinching is much
like the correction given to a pup by a bitch. Choke collars (IMHO) are
unsafe because they do not have a "stop" point. The choke collar can keep
tightening down on the throat if he is pulling, inevitably injuring the
trachea. The trachea can become injured from a choke with extremely harsh
correction. I know of a dog who had a "dented" trachea from a choke. A pinch
collar has a "stop" point that only lets the collar tighten down so far. But
if too harsh of a correction is used, you can cause injury with a pinch
collar as well.

I have used a pinch very successfully on my Brittany, and with my 10 month
Pyrs obedience training. I am sure there are credable trainers in your area
who could help you out. Ask your vet, they probably could refer you.
