Molly gets like this every year iin late august/early sept.  If she
scratches , she only aggravates the situation.  We do not do antibiotics
unless there is a sign of an infection-- as was the bump on her head last
week which is healing beautifully,, but instead cool the desire to scratch
the itching with up to 1mg/lb of benadryll or less.  I was able to get it
down to 25mg once or twice a day and 50  mg at bedtime.  It is probably the
slower pyr metabolism that made smaller doses effective without totally
zonking her.  Nothing like listening to twap, twap, TWAP all night to see
how beneficial a little benadryl can be.  To make matters worse through this
was that she was blowing coat and there were  masses of white fur
everywhere.
