I'm truly sorry you have such a "pratt" for a neighbor!  Have you considered 
arming yourself with something like pepper spray, or even a spray bottle with 
plain water?  I agree with you, it's not an option to let your dogs "teach" 
his dog a "lesson."  But what's to say YOU can't teach his old dog a new 
trick?

Just a thought -- from someone who lives in the country.
