Re: [PyrNet-L] shock collars and walking off lead

Doug, I hardly think that a comparison between baseball bats to the skull and
a shock collar are equivalent.
Bonds are built on many factors, love being the most important.Use of a shock
collar, believe it or not, can be motivated out of love. I knew my guy wanted
to be off leash and not being dragged behind me.He was humilated and I sensed
this.We had so many different trainers and training methods, including
"motivational"--I was instructed to just keep talking to him in a high
ptiched voice, encouraging him to keep up.It did NOT work.He has his own
personality and his own way of enjoying his life which I wanted very much to
try to incorporate into my own style of life. The only way to do this was be
sure that while he was doing HIS thing, he was safe.He did not and would not
"come" on command. This is why I resorted to hte shock collar and I have never
regretted it.It was not out of laziness on my part.I felt I had done all I
could do and wanted very much to afford him the opportunity to be the dog he
wanted to be.His spirit is huge and he is wonderful and happy.BTW- I think
females probably respond more positively to motivational training than males.
