Re: [PyrNet-L] shock collars and walking off lead
Brandy,
I think you need to apply Cindy's husband's technique -- a "lucky kick" often
does the trick.
When we were in training class with two of our pyrs, one of the other dogs
was a very young jack russell. While doing the "walk about" exercise, this
jr decided to go after one of the bigger dogs in the class. The trainer
immediately grabbed the jr, and forced him to the ground in a submitting
position. She said he had to learn that this wasn't appropriate behaviour,
as he could wind up DEAD!
Seriously, I would carry a stick and when the dog came toward us, wave the
stick in a threatening manner. Also rapping the stick on the ground to make
a loud noise may help. Finally, have you considered something like a water
spray bottle? Seeing that it is a smaller dog, a good firm stream of water
may have some effect.
Good luck,
Robyn
