I am the author of a parenting book advocating "the family bed" for parents 
and kids, so it's fun for me to read all these family bed advocates who are 
speaking of their dogs :-)

My Tessa (GSD) sleeps on her own bed right at the foot of ours and so far, 
she has been fairly strong minded in her opinion that puppy Leo is NOT to 
sleep anywhere near my bed. His crate is here next to my desk and he seems to 
sleep very well there...
