Children do things that are totally unacceptable because they haven't been
taught to know better. For the most part, children are pretty good with
animals (sure you get some of these sick psychos, but there are always
exceptions). However, I have noticed with my neighbor's kids (they have 9,
so I have Plenty of examples) that they generally are good with animals they
know. But young children can hurt a small animal by simply petting the
animal too hard. Although the child may be young, he/she can surely pack a
punch if it hits a small animal, such as a rabbit.

On the other hand, I have also seen children come up to my pasture fence and
tease my animals. They can't get to the animals, partly because of the good
fencing I have, but also because the animals know better than to tolerate
such behaviour. They simply leave the area. This teasing IS premeditated,
and can lead to worse behaviour in such children.
