Re: [pyrnet] Re: Flooring

Hi Cindy,

We researched Pergo and other laminate floors and decided against. First,
Pergo has a paper backing that can be damaged if water seeps through the
seams. Formica, Mannington, and WilsonArt actually seem to be the superior
product. Second, we found the wood laminates to be disappointing. They
basically just look like pictures of hardwood. Mannington and WilsonArt
seemed to have more realistic "pictures" and more choices as far as color,
etc. Third, I actually contacted Mannington and asked about damage from
dogs' nails. It turns out that non of the laminates are impervious to
scratching. That was the deciding factor. If the floor can still be
scratched by toe nails, what's the point? We're putting down the roughened
tile in the kitchen/dining area and just refinishing the existing hardwood
floors with a commercial finish. In our comparison shopping, we also
discovered that it's easier and cheaper to repair hardwood or replace a
seriously damaged board.

I hope this bit of information helps.

Kim
