RE: [pyrnet] Boarding Kennel Blues

We are getting ready to go on vacation in a few weeks. We are relatively
new here, and had never used a kennel before. When we started looking
around, you wouldn't believe some of the places we looked at! One of them
stunk as soon as we walked in, and the gal that worked there didn't seem to
have her lights turned on, if you know what I mean! She showed us the runs,
which were small, and stinky. Then she told us of how they will even take
dogs that need meds. I thought, "How nice". Then she told me once that one
dog that was there recently that needed meds in his food, she forgot to give
to him, and she kind of thought it was a big funny! Now our dogs don't need
any meds or anything, but I thought that if they were that negligent in
caring for animals, then what else? I could tell that they didn't spend too
much time disinfecting! We left there in a hurry! Other places just
weren't clean enough to me. I hate it when we'd check a place out, and it
would stink.

We finally found a place that is nearly new, and not far from us. It is so
clean, I just couldn't believe it! The owner at one time during the tour,
noticed a small amount of piddle (it was so small, we couldn't even see
it!), and had it cleaned up pronto! No smells there! One thing I liked
too, is that while it didn't stink of urine, it also didn't stink of
disinfectant. I always feel like if it smells strongly of disinfectant,
they are covering up something.

This guy and his wife run the kennel, and they also have, for a small fee,
the option of walking your dog for 1/2 hour each day. We really liked that.
And for those with active breeds, you can also arrange to have him take your
dog on a nature walk for a mile or more. They are going to open up two runs
for our three dogs, and the greatest thing about it all, is that he's got a
regular customer with pyrs, and he's located in the country, so the dogs
will feel more at home! Now if he only boarded cats, but he's allergic to
them! Oh well!

I truly don't think you are being a fanatic at all. When I got my first Pyr
(and first dog) 10 years ago, I never knew how quickly they became a part of
your life. I am lucky that I have family that can take my dogs when I
travel,
I would hate having to depend on the kindness of strangers to care for them.

Good luck on finding a kennel that Daisy can tolerate while you are away.
Now
that Badger sounds like he is on the mend (yeah!), he would be able to stay
with her and lessen her anxiety.
