Re: [pyrnet] Leonberger?

Thanks for the info June. Actually in a way then the Pyr. may almost be
considered to appear in the breed twice. Once of their own, and then
through the Newf. ( if you follow the Pyr. Newf. background ). Do they
have any suggestions what would have been crossed in later to set the
head type, or is it really a mystery?

Ok, another question, how about barking? Did they gain more silence from
the Saint and the Newf. Or does the Pyr. bark show up in the breed?

I loved your comments about them loving water. I always laugh because
the Pyrs. are such a pain about playing in their water, and the kitchen
floor can often be a lake!

I assume their dispositions are fairly mellow and easy going. Do they
play much? Any interest in retrieving
( maybe from the Newf. ? ) How about shedding, is there a lot of
undercoat to come out, or is it longer guard hairs mostly, with less
shedding than the Pyrs.?

I have a friend who has always had G.S.D.'s, and is looking at the
Leonbergers instead, this time. I think they may be a better choice for
her, personality wise. Trying to find out more about them, esp. from
people actually living with them, and not just the breeders. Any
information is helpful! Thanks so much! Cindy
