Re: [pyrnet] Dog Law

That's right, Cindy....there is no such thing as "common sense" any more with
some folks. Back in 1993, two smallish dogs actually chewed and clawed their
way into my chicken run and killed all of my chickens, except for a game cock
and three hens that were being housed in separate pens in the run. Mind you,
the chickens weren't out running free in the yard, they were enclosed in a
covered run, adjacent to our barn, well away from the normal flow of dogs and
other traffic.

David came home from work that evening to find them still in the pen. Seems
they got in but couldn't figure out how to get back out. I will admit -- I
was about ready to get my Father over to shoot the ruddy dogs, but David
wouldn't have it (he was still too "citified"). He called the Humane
society, and told them that we would be bringing these dogs in to them.
Neither dog had a collar or tags, and at first the Humane society didn't want
to take them. He told the person there, either they take them, or we kill
them, because they had just killed all our chickens and we wanted them off
our property! The person finally agreed, and we loaded the two dogs in the
back of the car. It wasn't until some time later, that we found out that
they were actually belonged to some folks that lived up the road from us.
They never asked us what happened to their dogs, and we never volunteered any
information.

Since then, our property is totally fenced. The pasture was originally
fenced with cattle wire, but now most of it is lined with a narrower gage
wire (the man who first introduced us to it called it "anti-climb" wire).
This prevents dogs from sticking their heads through the wire, and has been
very useful. Our yard is also completely fenced with wood fencing, lined
with this same "anti-climb" wire. Our guys don't get out, but more
importantly, strays don't get in!
