Re: [pyrnet] Consider breeding carriers (a proposal)

JGentzel@aol.com>

That's not important? We are offering the testing as a measure of breeding
of dwarfs on a reliable basis as some valid reason not to develop the
marker?
I think if that is the case, many of us will have to completely rethink
and
evaluate the purpose of the group and its function in the welfare of the
breed. To me this is no more that a smoke screen for something else.>>

Well, let's not make a federal case out of this. Yes, deafness or hearing
impairment is important. it does require some adjustments on the part of
the owner. But, within reason, this does not shorten the dogs normal,
healthy life, nor does it cripple them.

No, nobody is offering the possibility of breeding dwarfs as a reason for
not working for a marker. Indeed the people who brought this possiblity to
my attention are probably the *most* devoted to the marker project. it is
foolish to embark on any project or pursuit without a clear understanding
of all the potential ramification of that work. To do otherwise is to open
ourselves to some unexpected and potentially ugly surprises.

I am really not quite sure what you mean by re-evaluation and smoke screen.
Would you care to clarify that? If you are concerned about the direction
of the marker project or the work of the health committee in terms of the
dwarf issue, I would suggest that you contact Tami Green and offer your
assistance. it's a huge job and like everything connected with health work
in the breed, we can always use volunteers.
