Re: [pyrnet] a pyr owner wanna be!!!!

"Borrowed" from a post on another list re: CKC Registrations.

<<This is information from the Continental Kennel Club's own
site:
"If you own the puppies but are not the breeder then list the
breeder's
name under Breeder and your name as the Present Owner. You must
list the
sire and dam's name and CKC number in Section A of the
application if they
are registered with CKC. If any of these dogs ARE NOT registered
with CKC,
then list their names in Section A and also complete Section B of
the
application, by signing and having two witnesses sign to verify
that the
information on the application is accurate and true. "

In other words, you can register ANY dog as ANY breed just on the
signature
of two witnesses - who need not know a dog from a ground hog. And
the
broker who buys litter lots of unregistered pups has the right to
register
the pups with the CKC - even though he may not have any idea of
the pup's
actual breeding!

This "registry" has suddenly become very popular with the puppy
mills and
pet shops. They don't have the integrity of the AKC and will, in
fact,
register ANY dog . Again, from their own web site:
"The Pek-a-Poo, a cross that has been around for the last 25
years, is well
recognized. There are also many others that are being developed
around the
world. CKC will also register any wolf and dog cross as a wolf
hybrid. By
allowing the breeders the option of developing new breeds, we
are
promoting the breeding of better dogs. " The also suggest they
can find
you Labrodoodles from "reputable breeders'".

Since AKC has been upping their inspections of larger-quantity
breeders and
since they have made DNA testing MANDATORY for "frequently used
sires" -
those producing more than 7 litters in a lifetime or 3 litters
in a
calendar year, many puppy mills have frankly told their wholesale
buyers
that they will be using the Continental Kennel Club (not to be
confused
with the legitimate CKC, the Canadian Kennel Club) to register
their dogs.

So, buyer beware. If the dogs have Continental Kennel Club
registration,
it's because they are, for whatever reason, not able to be
registered with
the legitimate registry, the American Kennel Club.>>

As the poster mentioned, buyer beware. You may not be getting
what you think you're getting.
