Re: [pyrnet] Gentle Leader

Hi Alison,

I recently started using a Halti on my girl, Daisy. What a difference! I
wish I had used it from the start. At first she did fight it and during one
episode when she was trying to get away, she bit her tongue in the struggle
and also had the nose strap pulled very tight around her muzzle. It caused
a little bit of bleeding from her tongue and I nearly discarded it as cruel.
Besides, I thought the look of it robbed her of her dignity, but I stuck
with it. I'd have to say that it took her no more than 3 days to finally
accept it and now she puts her nose in voluntarily to take her walk. Before
Halti, I could barely control her outside, especially if she spotted another
dog, so I stopped walking her unless Bill was with me. Also, my arthritic
elbows and wrists just couldn't take all that yanking. She's a perfect lady
with the Halti. One thing though, if your pyr takes her walks with her nose
to the ground the whole time, sniffing ... the leash tends to get in the way
of the front paws.
