A tip - for those matts that you just can't get apart with a comb, instead
of actually cutting them off, take a pair of scissors and make a number of
cuts through the matt down towards the skin (go slow and careful so you dont
cut skin too!)  Once you have the matt divided into several pieces, it is
easier to tease it apart with your fingers and a comb and remove it, leaving
some of the hair still in place.  The spot will be thinner, but it won't
look as 'patchy' ;-).
