I think a lot of people actually have the wood privacy fencing.  My only
personal dislike for them is, they could be chewed through ( if given an
inch, the hole can be a mile :-) ),  possibly more digging too, to try to
see 
out .  And I " personally " think there have been problems with dogs not
being able to see out,  I think mentally that solid barriers can have an
effect on a dog.  It isn't going to happen to all dogs, but I do think it
has an effect on some similar to being on a chain.  That's my opinion
