RE: [pyrnet] Dew Claws

Hi Margaret,

Funny that you say that...because someone at the cashier's booth was saying, "Hey is that a Newfy?" when we walked in.

I knew that dew claws were standard....but he had me questioning myself on the "double" dew claw.  I told him it was the standard and you couldn't even show a dog w/o them.  He just kept looking at me as if I was an idiot.
You know, he was just an obnoxious (SP?)  person now that I think about it.

Oh, BTW, the best part about yesterday's trip to Petsmart was that I purchased  an undercoat rake. I was so pumped to go home and get rid of all the excess hair on Max.  His coat looks so much nicer!!  You just wouldn't believe the hair that came off of my dog!!  Well, yes you would.

I'm thankful for those of you on this list that are interested in the sciences re: breeding aspect and question/scrutinize or debate the health issues for Pyrs because you love them so that people like myself will be able to purchase happy, healthy dogs.  I read the emails but don't have much understanding and comprehend very little of what it is I do read.  Nevertheless, I am learning quite a bit.

Happy Holidays,
Thea

I was in Petsmart yesterday getting a new toy for my dog.  I had him in
there with me and my son and people were coming up to pet him and love on
him and we were all enjoying a nice moment when this guy blurts out ..."your
dog was in-bred".  I asked what he meant by that.  He stated that my dog has
double dew claws and that meant in-breeding. I felt embarrassed by the way
he spoke it (I don't know why that would have embarrassed me but it
did...anyway).  He said he bred boxers...my thought was (keep to your boxers
dude).  I certainly didn't take his word for it...but it did get me to
wondering.  I love my dog no matter what and tried to be careful of the
breeder when choosing him.  I've never seen dew claws on dogs before I got
Max and I'm wondering...are there suppose to be two nails or just one on the
dew claws? (spelling?)

Just wondering.....
