Re: [pyrnet] Working Show Dogs, was pet store puppies

Hi Bonnie, We had our big black girl back in the 80's. She made it to
about seven years. She got along fine with the Mastiffs back then. But
I find the Mastiffs less squabbly than the Pyrs. as a whole. I'm sure
with care you could do both, provided they were altered.

Pepper was extremely protective of the kids, and she used to drive them
nuts when we went to the gulf coast. She would grab them by their suits
and haul their behinds out of the gulf waters.

She started going after wayward steers one day when we had a bad episode
of some of them breaking out of the loading chute. After repeated tries
to get them back together and loaded, my husband was mad enough to shoot
them. I told Pepper to "go get them", thinking she might at least round
them up and run them in closer, saving us "some" work. Imagine our
surprise when she ran up to them leapt in the air grabbed them by the
ear, dropped her weight on them and dropped them. We would run out sit
on their heads, get a rope on them. She would go after another and
repeat the procedure. After that, we knew she could get them if we
needed her to. I have lots more stories of Pepper, she was a wonderful
girl. They just have such a short life span! :-(
