Re: [pyrnet] seamus update and advice on england travel

i'm amazed how little american press is covering this disease outbreak in england.  no one i talk to has even heard of it.  i wouldn't have either if i wasn't subscribed to this list.  we're traveling to england on thursday (without any pets) but i'm 18 weeks pregnant.  should i be concerned?  i've checked every travel advisory web site and even checked my airline's website to see if they had any info but nothing.  i've only read bbc reports that haven't mentioned london, which is where we're going.  we're not leaving the city and we're vegetarians so i think it would be ok but i would love any insights from the group.

ok, now for pyr related news.  seamus had his staples out on friday.  our vet was blown away at his speedy recovery.  he couldn't believe that seamus was even putting any weight on the leg and that there was no swelling or bruising.  most dogs only start toe touching after the 3rd week and it has been only 2 for us.  even so, he must remain confined for 8 more weeks which was going ok until yesterday and today when he decided to poop in the house.  this dog has had very few accidents in the house  so we're puzzled.  when we take him out  he's so distracted by smells from dogs, people and kitties that he doesn't seem to have relieving himself on his agenda.  we stay out for a long time but since he' s not allowed to walk we just kind of stand around in the yard (and its really cold here).  so we bring him back in and leave and come back to a big surprise.  its weird.  but physically he's doing really well, eating (obviously) and drinking and only marginally licking himself.   the biggest challenge is to keep him from getting excited and jumping up or running down the hall in the house.

any suggestions on either topic would be appreciated.
