[pyrnet] prozac for dogs

lisa,
i noticed you said he was on prozac now....is that doing a lot of good? i
have a male pyr who is terrified of a couple of my other males (all
neutered), is depressed alot and keeps his head dropped most of the time,
except for when he's doing his little soldier duty around the yard (he's
seriously like a soldier, pacing the whole yard 1/2 of the day, nonstop).
he's OVERLY aggressive w/food (more-so than your avg. pyr) but doesn't eat a
lot (therefore very underweight and nothing entices him - but he's also
running nonstop 1/2 of the day). he cannot be taken out of the yard b/c
when he comes back in he starts attacking the others & fighting for his life
as soon as he crosses the gate....and it's not pretty. when all the others
are sitting together, often he'll sit by himself. he knows he's the last
one on the heirarchy, too, and you can tell that depresses him. he adores,
i mean truly loves, my other female rescue, and i really think she's his
saving grace. somehow i think they know they come from the same type of
background. he was obviously abused, and what's happening now is he's
getting more and more fear aggressive. BUT, he longs for and loves human
companionship. loves people, affection, children, smiles and wags his tail
the whole time he's w/them, wants to be petted or snuggled w/you at all
times.....it's really bizarre. i've got him on st. john's wort (don't
laugh - a homeopathic book for animals suggested it), and it's helped some,
but i didn't know if the prozac had just done wonders for your dog. if so,
i probably need to look into it. any other suggestions would be
appreciated. i've tried everything and i don't want to put him down b/c
he's terrified. i'd like to do all i can to give him a chance.

thanks, allison
