Re: [pyrnet] 2001 National Specialty Results

We made it home from the National late last night and I took off the day today
to sleep in and do laundry. What a great national specialty it was! Many
thanks to PFNE members who did a wonderful job hosting the event. There is
never enough time to see all the dogs or talk to all the people we want to see.

This year's National was particulary special for me because of the chance to
see some of the best dogs from France as well as watch the judging of a judges
from Belgium and one from England. The Winners dog, Noustamic de Neouville,
was just wonderful. He is probably one of the tallest dogs I have seen. His
head is breathtaking. This dog is truly elegant.

The Futurity judge was M. Henri Remy from Belgium. M. Remy bred Dagobert de
Griffe de Ours and Fanny de Griffe de Ours who are two dogs whose pictures were
in the International Great Pyrenees magazine some years ago. To me, the
pictures of these two dogs heads are just spectacular. M. Remy did look
carefully at heads but also ran the dogs round and round and looked carefully
at soundness. He chose Majesta's French Monet owned by Patricia Princehouse
and Faye Ragland for Best in Sweepstakes. Best of Opposite Sex to Best in
Sweepstakes was Rivergroves Jett-Jackson owned and bred by Jean Boyd. It is
always wonderful to see the Veterans. Arlene Oraby showed Bonbelle Du Comte de
Foix at 14 1/2 years of age. They were planning a 4-generation picture with
Bonbelle and her offspring. Best Veteran was Whitehope's Bittersweet Babs
owned and bred by Dave & Maureen Simon and Reserve Veteran was Zakamore's
Golden Girl owned and bred by Bret and Amy Zacher. When I talked to M. Remy,
he said that he had to change his thoughts about US dogs. He was impressed
with soundness and there were quite a few nice dogs. He did say that we need
to work on size and heads.
All three judges were looking for nice heads. The whole show was taped by
Domino video company and I plan to buy the tapes so that I can spend more time
looking at all the dogs. Small brag: Winners Bitch was Maranatha Bizzy Lizzy
owned and bred by Whitney & Nancy Coombs. Lizzy is a "niece" since we bred her
father. She is the 3rd generation to take winners at a National Specialty. My
Banner (Lizzy's uncle) made it to the last cut in the Best of Breed
Competition! I also purchased a cart and had it fitted for Banner and hope to
start doing carting this year. Sorry this is so long...as you can tell we had
a great time.
