Re: [pyrnet] Charlotte/Boot Camp

Title: Re: [pyrnet] Charlotte/Boot Camp
----------
Hi Charlotte:
I just read the article on Boot camp Alpha training. This was a wonderful and informative read.
I don't think that"I" have a to much of a problem with this though, I have no doubt, that I am the Alpha to Zeus (in most ways) but the one I seem to fail at, is letting him know that I will handle the scarey situations, and won't let anything happen to him. Which I'm sure the Alpha dog in the wild, does show his pack.
I walk through doorways, gates etc. before him, I can take a bloody, meaty bone out of his mouth without so much as a look, he just pleadingly looks at me to give it back. He will down /stay for a half hour if I want him to. And when he knows I'm annoyed, he immediately rolls over and submits.
I think that I have established that I'm the Alpha, but it is regarding the children that is the problem. I don't think that it will be ever possible to teach a 3,6,&7 year old to assert the authority needed to show that they are Alpha also. I also don't think that it could be possible to teach the dog to regard them as one either.
I do on the other hand, think it may be possible to teach the dog that even though they are not dominant over him, that he "MUST NOT" act or show his dominants over them. To respect them as humans and not as puppy's. Also I think that it's equally important for my children to learn to respect his space, and his comfort level. This I'm am working on now with diligence.
Although I think that I have the basic's of establishing Alpha covered, there is much more to be learned, in the article you suggested. Some of which I think I need to work on.
Thank you so much, it will be of great help.
