We did this in our other house and with extra padding you can hardly tell the
difference.    I will say whether you use hard wood, tile or pergo (laminate)
you must be careful with the dogs playing (at any age).   When we had carpet
I didn't worry as much as I do now (what's a little more stressssssssss!
LOL).    The flip side to the commercial carpet is that it is actually less
expensive and you don't feel so bad when you half to replace it.
