[pyrnet] CHAT: A Story of True Pyr Temperament

Early Wednesday morning, 3:05 AM to be exact, we had a terrible
thunderstorm that knocked out our power. Took out the whole grid.
My Dad has Parkinson's Disease and is not very ambulatory, so he
has an electric lift chair/recliner, in which he spends the
night. Of course, when the power went out, the chair was in the
fully reclined position. :-/ At about 4 AM, when he could not get
out of the chair, he called 911 for help. (evidently the live in
home health aide did not hear his calls for help) So, a police
officer was dispatched to help him out of his chair. Officer
appears at the door, my Dad's friend, who lives here as well and
is just a few years yopunger than Dad, goes to let him in, and Bo
will have none of it! He stood in the open doorway, baring his
teeth and emitting a low, deep warning growl. The Officer decided
to do the smart thing and slowly backed out the door until my Son
and the friend got the Pyrs in their crates. Bo did not even try
to bite, or push the issue. He just stood his ground, teeth
bared, growling low. I can only imagine how he must have
perceived the situation. My elderly and infirm Dad, in the back
of the house, doing his best to call for help, no lights, 6' 2"
hulking figure standing in the front door with flashlight in
hand. Bo did absolutely the right thing, and had a perfect
response to the situation. Just enough to get his point across,
and did not go over the top. And, I give credit to the Officer
for responding appropriately as well by slowly backing out the
door and waiting for the dogs to be confined. BTW, those who
confined the dogs did not bother to latch the crate doors, but
they stayed put! <G> (My bedroom is upstairs, I was not awakened
by the T-storm, but by the dogs barking once they were crated.)
