[pyrnet] anxiety

Hey everybody,

I have the cutest rescue pyr at my house that I am fostering. She looks
like a miniature pyr....weighs about 45lbs. She came from a roaming
situation...she and her very old male companion were left behind when a farm
was sold and a subdivision was built before someone could put their hands on
this girl. Her companion had disappeared. Anyway, she is very quiet and
suffers from anxiety in the house when she is left alone. We have tried
crating her, but she has bent the cage all to heck trying to get out and
drools like crazy in the process. I have put her in the run with my other
pyrs and she stands there and shakes. She is too destructive in the house
to let her have free roaming privileges...she chewed electrical cords in two
and tore up curtains, and tap danced on my maple table. I have put her on
anafranil at the vet's suggestion. Does anyone have any suggestions about
how to help her adjust to her new situation??? I have had to resort to
putting her out on a chain in the yard simply because this is where she
seems to be the least stressed. She is currently in treatment for
heartworms, so keeping her calm has been a challenge. When we are in the
house with her, she curls up by my husband's chair and goes to sleep. She
seems to like attention and will come up to be petted and hugged. Any ideas
on how to help her would be greatly appreciated.
