Re: [pyrnet] Re: Young Pyr's Behaviour
Christine, my boy Mellow is 2 now and I can honestly say that there were MANY
minutes that I didn't think we would make it this far. I had the rescue
number memorized (not really but I wasn't far from it at times). When he
turned a year he calmed down sooooo much I could finally take a breath.
During his second year he became so much more mature and the incidence of
'testing' dropped to almost none by now. When we are out people are always
amazed by what a sweet, gentle WELL BEHAVED dog they see. It does NOT happen
easily or overnight. They are smart enough to know that some new trick might
work if an old one failed and I do believe that they want to try them all
before they give up and comply! Not all pyrs are like this. Mellow is the
toughest pyr (or DOG for that matter!) that I have ever had. My previous 4
pyrs never did the things he did as a youngster, but it doesn't matter now,
he is very, very good now. It will get better. Be consistent with him and
don't relax your expectations for even a minute or he'll have the upper hand
for a looooong time. Good luck.

morning!) and Chundo
